Run-up and overtopping
Reading Time: < 1 minute
The porosity of the main armor unit and the geometry of the protective pieces have a major effect on mound breakwater run-up and overtopping. Cubipod creates homogeneous main armor units whose porosity remains constant throughout the service life of the structure. This fact, coupled with its high porosity, makes overtopping rates for Cubipod armor low, similar to the rates for bulky units, resulting in less force being exerted on the crown walls.
Low overtopping discharges enable Cubipod to reduce significantly the breakwater crest elevation, which leads to a reduction in the cost of the main armor unit and the crown wall. Furthermore, this has a direct effect on the visual impact of the area where the breakwater is constructed.
